Top 5 original Xbox games for the 360

Here are my top 5 original Xbox games that can be played on the 360. Some people may not have had the original Xbox and may have missed out on these beauties. Some may poo poo these older games as relics and not worthy of the mighty 360, but I fully disagree. These games are great and worth a second or even a first look. Some of these can be downloaded via Xbox Live, but at $20 I would do some bargain bin hunting first. If you have a huge HD TV set then things can look a little pixilated. You might want to borrow any original Xbox game from the backward compatibility list for a test run first. I have a HD projector that has an excellent scaler chip, so things look great. What’s your experience and top 5?

5) Fable: The Lost Chapters
If you are going to get Fable, you might as well get the extra content. The extra content includes new quests and areas to explore along with new armor, weapons and spells. All though the game never quite lived up to the hype and lofty goals it set out to create, the game is pretty good never the less. Build your character up to a respected goody two shoes or a feared badass. Learn the sword or maybe the bow. Buy a house and get married. This game has great replay value and should be played through at least once.

4) Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly DIRECTOR'S CUT
A lot of people have never heard of this game which is a shame. It is perhaps the scariest game ever made. Did you just call me a puss? Hear me out. This game must be played ALONE, in the dark and no distractions. If people are around or there are interruptions then the effect fails. I kid you don't, I have yelled out loud and had to turn it off a few times. You play as pre-teen twins, Mio and Mayu who find The Lost Village and the story begins. Armed with a special camera that helps you defeat things that go bump in the night, the game never lets up. The game plays like a movie and the atmosphere and tension are unbelievable. A must play for any fan of survival horror.

3) Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Only the best Star Wars game ever made. With a cast and story better than any of the movies, this game can be played again an again. With the good/evil choices and the leveling up of your character there are dozen of ways to play through. Some people are turned of by the extra dialog and it being turned based fighting. I am not. I say the dialog enhances the experience, and while I do prefer real-time battles you can 'stack' your moves and jump to each player in your party at anytime. The sequel was good but this is still the top dog.

2) Jade Empire
Ahhhh, BioWare, how I love thee, let me count the ways. They took the formula used in KotOR and boiled it down to its finest essences. With a simpler menu and upgrading system, the game improves through subtraction. The story is great and the fighting styles are awesome, and it’s real-time! Yippy! The good/evil path makes its return as well. It takes place in mythic china and the world that they have created is fantastic. Even if you are not a fan of these types of games, Jade Empire deserves a look.

1) Psychonauts
After begging and pleading, Psychonauts finally got some 360 love. This game was not a huge commercial hit, which is a damn shame. Brilliant in almost every way, this game shines like a fine jewel. Each level takes place in someone’s mind, so the landscapes and game play are varied and unlike any other game you will ever play. The writing is some of the best, hilarious with subtleties that if caught will make you laugh out loud. With a mix of collecting and leveling this game should not be missed by anyone. There is one level that is worth the price of admission alone! Goggalor!
