TV shopping...
Unfortunately, my 2nd generation Samsung DLP set has finally refused to turn on. The bulb is still good (as far as I can tell), so that leaves either the ballast or the power circuit itself. This blows, because either way, I'm looking at a few hundred dollars to fix it. I'm going to call and beg Samsung for help, or to at least see if they can cut me a deal or something, but if not, it looks like I'll be selling this one to somebody who doesn't mind the hassle of fixing it, and plunking down for a new set.
I was eying the Sony XSRD line, but those are now defunct, and Sony's other offerings are way too expensive for the size I am looking for (61'). In the price to size ratio, DLP is still the cheapest, but when I look at the average cost of owning my current set before it died, I can't help but feel completely raped. Mind you, it isn't the bulb that is out, it's another component, which to me, constitutes a failure that is not merely routine maintenance - I'd be happy if I could just throw in a new bulb and have it work again.
Anyway, no gaming for me until this gets sorted out. We'll see if Sammy comes through for me...
